Tool # 11



1. These tool have been quite interesting and I would love to use as many  as I can in my classroom.I like wordle, creating polls, today's meet, sharing files in google doc, creating blogs and skype etc...


2. I would like to use  today'e meet and blogs more often.

3. I was surprised by the amount of things I did not know.

Tool # 10 Digital Citizenship


Students must understand that integrity, honesty and the golden rule applies to everyone as it relates to digital citizenship.
I will have class go to atomic learning to explore and learn how to be a responsible digital citizen.
Typically I have students sign a contact so parents are aware that their son/daughter has a responsibility when using technology and the internet at school.

Tool #9: Incorporating Classroom-Based Devices as Tools for Learning

  1. Technology is a part of everyone's life, everyday.  Educators must embrace these technological changes in the way we teach and facilitate learning. As this technology is part of the student's everyday life as well, we must incorporate it in their learning as part of the lesson objective so it is meaningful and relevant.
  2. Students should be held accountable in the classroom. When we hold kids accountable for their learning we help the students take ownership of it..
  3. I currently have one I Pad and several very old computers which I have students use use as often as I can to create projects and  access a variety of sites that facilitate learning.I am looking forward to having several Notebooks in my class.I am currently having students create wordles, and use makebeliefscomix.com to create cartoons as part of a visual presentation in both sociology and IPET. 4. I think the I Pad/I Touch could be used interactively when students are working together and creating a project or editing each other's work.

Tool #8:Taking a Look at the Tools


I learned that the Dell Netbook is very similar to most computers.
My son has an I Pad at home and I use it quite often.
I currently have only one I Pad in my classroom.  I have  students take turns using it and they are responsible checking it back to me when finished or at the end of the period. 
Students love using this or their personal I Pads/phones. The most serious problem at the moment, is not having enough devices for each student to use.

Tool #7: Reaching Outside your Classroom: Online Digital Projects

Here's a potential project for an IPET (Instructional Practices in Education and Training) class.

Content objective 
Students will  evaluate their peers, via Skype, with another IPET class in SBISD to improve  teaching skills and strategies.

When you plan to implement
last 6 weeks of school.

What tool(s) you plan to use
Skype

A brief description 
Use Skype to observe a peer teach an elementary school  lesson, either at their placement or in their course classroom. Using a rubric, evaluate the lesson.  At the end of the lesson, discuss the best practices observed and give constructive suggestions for  improvement.

The Poll Everywhere tool is awesome. I can use this in my class to measure what students are understanding.

My sociology class created a "wordle" while reading an article about Black Heroes in America. We were going to post them in the wordle cloud but realized there was no way to keep the entire class set together so students printed them off instead and I posted them in my classroom. I experimented with google form.

I suppose you could use the google form as an assessment in any class. If students had a way of accessing the app, you could use it in class for immediate feedback or even as home assignment.

Tool # 3: Finding Online Video and Image Resources

For your Tool #3 Assignment:


  1. As a psychology and sociology teacher, I have found several sites that are invaluable to my teaching. I love using Discovery education, You tube and NPR. These sites have tons of visuals, commentaries and  research relating to any and every topic we investigate in both sociology and psychology.
  2. I've embedded two videos I use in my classroom.
  3. Copyright and fair use regulations...Glad to know there are exceptions for teachers and students!  As long as we repurpose and/or add value to a copyrighted piece we can use it for educational purposes. Also if we are using a legal copy or reproduction of a legal copy AND can answer YES to each of these questions below, we are within our rights. 
    Will the copyrighted work be performed or displayed in 1) the course of face-to-face teaching activities of a 2) non-profit institution in a 3) classroom or similar place devoted to instruction?
  4. Created a drop box during SBISD in-service in August. Every teacher responded to assignment that was put in this drop box.

Tool #2:Building Community in the Online Environment

  1. I just googled psychology blog and was amazed at what I found. Yes, many were educators, doctors, therapists, individuals blogging about their mental illnesses or criticizing some aspect of psychology - research on psych reviews, criticisms about the proposed changes in the DSM etc...you name it.
  2. I have very mixed emotions about private "journaling" in public spaces. It can be so advantageous and so dangerous at the same time. I think it will take an incredible amount of effort for any individual, and for students even more effort, to separate good from bad, real from "surreal", oppressive from liberating.
  3. Yes, I suppose blogs can be very useful in building an "online community" if the blog is a credible site, it could be very helpful and insightful.
  4. psychologicalscience.org./only human/2010. This site offers interesting reviews on research about everyday life situations.

Tool #1 Creating a Blog

This was fun but frustrating because of MHS networks!
So happy to have created a Voki. That part was fun but getting it in my blog was challenging for me.Now on to tool number 2.
